Controlling the Master Keys to your KeyBox System Options for distributing master keys to your sales and service personnel include either 1) permanently issuing keys or 2) checking keys out daily: - Issue keys by serial number. Lease agreement forms are provided with all keys. Many dealers require a $50 to $100 key deposit from each employee to ensure key return when the employee terminates employment. - Check keys out:
Instead of issuing keys to personnel on a permanent basis, keys
are checked out to sales and service employees when on duty, and
the keys are returned before leaving the dealership. As a
reminder, some dealerships ask for a salesperson's personal car
keys in exchange for the master key. Managing the Use of KeyBoxes Dealerships use KeyBoxes in numerous ways to support sales and service activities. These activities include: - Supra nameplates that identify each KeyBox as your property and remind consumers to return the KeyBox to you. - Assign a responsibility to one person in the final sales process for removing the KeyBox from the sold car. If no KeyBox comes with the final paperwork, the salesperson is asked to retrieve it before contracts are signed. - Have the Prep/Detail
Department remove KeyBoxes as cars are readied for customer pickup.
Financing Considerations Dealers consider KeyBoxes a valuable capital expenditure and absorb their cost as an operation investment. - Suggestion: Require salespeople to contribute $1 to $5 for every sale they close toward the purchase of KeyBoxes. Afterall, KeyBoxes continually benefit salespeople by making it easier to show and sell more cars.
